In May I enjoyed a trip to Oman’s Ritz Carlton Al Bustan as a pre-Ramadan getaway from Dubai.
Flights are pretty cheap from the Emirate and super short at 50 minutes to Muscat (before a 45 minute drive to the property).
As soon as I arrived for my three-day weekend, I was welcomed by friendly staff offering up fresh dates (I never seen them green before!) in the grand lobby.
After unpacking in the room, which overlooked the resort’s pools and out to the ocean, I headed outside for some much needed Vitamin D – apparently people in the UAE aren’t getting enough!
It’s hard not to want to capture the beauty of the hotel’s biggest asset, in my opinion, the infinity pool. So I decided to hop up onto the water feature at the top of the pool to get the perfect shot. The way the palm trees line the water makes it a stunning snap and provides a necessary shade while sunbathing of course.
I spent most of my time reading and slurping on the delicious cocktails served at the beach bar, but I also tried a bit of snorkeling in the sea too. The Ritz Carlton will kit you out with the necessary gear and you can swim out to the caves alone or be escorted a bit further with a guide on a boat. Best of all it’s at no extra cost to your stay at the resort.
While out in the sea you may also notice the private beach just for ladies, it’s based near the hotel’s women-only Six Senses Spa and it’s accessible by golf buggy or on foot, so don’t try paddling up to it.
I enjoyed a relaxing massage during my stay, a little too relaxing apparently as a fell asleep. I was also given a health check-up where an expert assessed things like my fitness and even bone alignment. I was then emailed the results and verbally guided through how I can improve things like my metabolism.
Of course, food is a big part of any holiday and I was so grateful the food in the main restaurant was so good. Daily they change the theme of what they serve at Al Khiran Terrace Restaurant, whether it’s steak or seafood night, you see them whipping up the food right in front of you. There were plenty of healthy options as well so I didn’t feel guilty after my new health advice.
I stayed in a junior suite which they make cosy by providing Asprey bathroom products and tea and coffee making facilities, as well as free soft drinks. We were made to feel very welcome with a fruit platter and it’s more than enough room for two people sharing as there a different vanity and desk areas, as well as a balcony over the lush garden settings.
I’d highly recommend the place if you find that you need to leave home to relax like me. The staff are so helpful you forced to chill out the moment you arrive as pretty much everything you can think of is taken care of right up until you leave.
With Oman bordering the United Arab Emirates, it’s a such a convenient trip, I’m sure I’ll be back.
